Perry Golf & Country Club

Kolby Gilroy, bolstered by his first ever hole-in-one, won the 13^th annual Memorial Golf Tournament, held at Perry Golf & Country Club on July 5^th.  Gilroy, who also won the tourney in 2024, fired a scorching opening round of 6 under par 66.  That round gave him a 3 stroke lead over defending champion Nick Luett, who carded a 69.  Zach Paletta was the only other golfer to shoot under par in the opening 18 holes with a 71.  In the Championship nine holes, Gilroy gave his opponents little chance to overtake him as he carded a 37, while Luett fell back with a 40 and Paletta scored a 38.  Gilroy’s hole-in-one occurred on the second nine holes on hole #6, where he followed up his opening 35 with a brilliant 31.  The tournament honored the late Gene Sturtz, who taught and coached for Perry High School and Middle School for 29 years.  Sturtz also was a long-time member of Perry Golf & CC and served on the Board for several years.  He is credited with getting the club to provide senior tees to make the game more enjoyable for older golfers. 

In the other flights, ties were broken with cardbacks, starting with the number one handicap hole and proceeding with the 2^nd handicap hole, etc. until a winner emerged.  Steve Montgomery fired a fine, 3 under par 69 to win the Senior Division (ages 50-69) for the third year in a row.  And John Brown won the Super Senior Division (age 70 & up) for the second year in a row with a 77.  The place winners for all flights include the following:
